Eligibility criteria for free contraception:

Requirement 1.

You’re a person with a uterus.

Requirement 2.

You’re aged between 17 and 35.

Requirement 3.

You’re living in Rep. of Ireland.

Requirement 4.

You’ve a PPS number (PPSN).

  • Brevinor is primarily used to prevent pregnancy. It’s a combined oral contraceptive pill that also helps regulate periods, ease cramps and may improve skin clarity.

  • Brevinor contains two hormones, oestrogen and progestogen, which stop ovulation, thicken cervical mucus to block sperm and thin the womb lining to reduce the chance of implantation.

  • Take one pill at the same time every day for 21 days, followed by a 7-day break when you’ll usually have a withdrawal bleed. Then start the next pack.

  • If you miss one pill, take it as soon as you remember and carry on as normal. Missing more than one may reduce its effectiveness, so follow the instructions in the leaflet or speak to us.

  • Yes, many users find their periods become lighter and less painful while on Brevinor, which can be a welcome relief for those with difficult menstrual cycles.

  • Some people may experience nausea, headaches, breast tenderness or mood changes. These often settle after a few months, but speak to us if they persist.

  • Not always. It may not be recommended for those who smoke over the age of 35, have certain medical conditions or are at risk of blood clots. We will help assess suitability.

  • No, Brevinor does not protect against sexually transmitted infections. Use condoms for protection against STIs.

  • Yes, by skipping the 7-day break and starting the next pack immediately, you can delay your period. However, check with us before doing this regularly.

  • If you vomit within a few hours of taking Brevinor, your body may not absorb it properly. Take another pill as soon as possible and follow the missed pill guidance if needed.
