Patients should consult a healthcare professional and refer to the leaflet on medicines.ie.

  • Cilique is a combined oral contraceptive pill that contains two hormones—ethinylestradiol and norgestimate. These prevent ovulation, thicken cervical mucus to stop sperm reaching the egg and thin the womb lining to reduce the chance of implantation.

  • When taken correctly, Cilique is over 99% effective. This means fewer than 1 in 100 women will become pregnant in a year if the pill is used as directed.

  • If you miss one pill, take it as soon as you remember and continue as normal. Missing more than one may reduce effectiveness, so consult the patient leaflet or us guidance.

  • Yes, many women find that Cilique makes periods lighter, more regular and less painful. It may also help reduce premenstrual symptoms.

  • No. Fertility typically returns quickly once you stop taking the pill, although this can vary slightly from person to person.

  • Some women experience mild side effects like nausea, breast tenderness or mood changes when starting Cilique. These often settle within a few months. If symptoms persist or worsen, speak to us.

  • Smoking, especially if you’re over 35, increases the risk of serious side effects like blood clots when taking combined pills. Always discuss your health and lifestyle with us before starting Cilique.

  • No, Cilique does not protect against sexually transmitted infections. Using condoms is still important for protection against STIs.
