Femodene is a combined contraceptive pill that helps prevent pregnancy.
Femodene isn’t available in Ireland, but there are many free alternatives, if you’re eligible.
Eligibility criteria for free contraception:
Requirement 1.
You’re a person with a uterus.
Requirement 2.
You’re aged between 17 and 35.
Requirement 3.
You’re living in Rep. of Ireland.
Requirement 4.
You’ve a PPS number (PPSN).

Femodene is a combined oral contraceptive pill designed to prevent pregnancy. It may also help manage period pain, heavy bleeding and acne.

It contains synthetic versions of oestrogen and progestogen, which stop the release of an egg, thicken cervical mucus and alter the womb lining to prevent pregnancy.

Take one pill daily for 21 days, then have a seven-day break before starting the next pack. You’ll usually get a withdrawal bleed during the break.

If you miss one pill, take it as soon as you remember and continue as normal. Missing more than one may lower protection—follow the leaflet or speak to us.

Some women may experience nausea, mood changes, breast tenderness or spotting. These usually settle, but speak to us if symptoms persist or worsen.

It’s not right for everyone. Smokers over 35, or those with certain health conditions, may be advised to use an alternative method. Always consult us first.

No, Femodene does not protect against sexually transmitted infections. Use condoms for protection against STIs.

Yes, by skipping the seven-day break and starting the next pack straight away, you can delay your period. Check with us to ensure this is safe for you.
