Femodette is a combined contraceptive pill that helps prevent pregnancy.
Femodette isn’t available in Ireland, but there are many free alternatives, if you’re eligible.
Eligibility criteria for free contraception:
Requirement 1.
You’re a person with a uterus.
Requirement 2.
You’re aged between 17 and 35.
Requirement 3.
You’re living in Rep. of Ireland.
Requirement 4.
You’ve a PPS number (PPSN).

Femodette is a combined oral contraceptive pill taken to prevent pregnancy. It may also help regulate periods, ease menstrual pain and reduce acne.

Femodette contains two hormones that stop ovulation, thicken cervical mucus to block sperm and thin the womb lining to prevent implantation.

Take one pill at the same time each day for 21 days, followed by a seven-day break. During the break, you’ll usually have a withdrawal bleed.

If you're less than 12 hours late, take it as soon as you remember and carry on as normal. If you're more than 12 hours late, check the leaflet or speak to us.

Yes, many women find that Femodette makes their periods lighter, more regular and less painful over time.

Femodette may not be suitable for women who smoke and are over 35, or those with certain health conditions. Always consult us before starting.

Some women may experience nausea, headaches, mood changes or breast tenderness. Most side effects are mild and often settle with time.

No, Femodette does not protect against sexually transmitted infections. You’ll need to use condoms for protection from STIs.

If you vomit within two hours of taking a pill, it may not be fully absorbed. Take another pill as soon as possible and continue as normal.

If taken on the first day of your period, Femodette protects you straight away. If started later, use extra protection for the first seven days.
