Eligibility criteria for free contraception:

Requirement 1.

You’re a person with a uterus.

Requirement 2.

You’re aged between 17 and 35.

Requirement 3.

You’re living in Rep. of Ireland.

Requirement 4.

You’ve a PPS number (PPSN).

  • Mercilon is a combined oral contraceptive pill used to prevent pregnancy. It may also help regulate periods and improve skin issues like acne.

  • Take one pill at the same time each day for 21 days, followed by a 7-day break. During this break, you’ll usually have a withdrawal bleed similar to a period.

  • If you miss one pill, take it as soon as you remember and continue as normal. Missing more than one may reduce effectiveness, so follow the instructions in the leaflet or speak to us for advice.

  • Yes, many women find that Mercilon reduces cramps and makes periods lighter and more manageable.

  • No. Your fertility typically returns quickly after stopping the pill. Some women may ovulate within a few weeks.

  • Mercilon can help clear up mild to moderate acne by regulating hormone levels, though results may vary between individuals.

  • Some users experience side effects such as nausea, headaches, mood changes or breast tenderness. These often settle after the first few months.

  • Mercilon may not be suitable for women with certain health conditions, such as a history of blood clots, migraines with aura or liver disease. Always consult us first.

  • If you vomit within two hours of taking Mercilon, it may not be absorbed properly. Take another pill as soon as possible and continue as normal.

  • Mercilon is generally not recommended while breastfeeding, especially during the first six weeks after birth. Speak to us about other options.
