While we strive to keep this page current, product information may change.

Patients should consult a healthcare professional and refer to the leaflet on medicines.ie.

  • Microlite is a daily oral contraceptive pill that contains a low dose of hormones to help prevent pregnancy. It's often chosen for its gentle formulation.

  • It works by stopping the ovaries from releasing an egg, thickening cervical mucus to block sperm and thinning the womb lining to prevent implantation.

  • Ideally, begin on the first day of your period for immediate protection. If you start later, use extra contraception for the first seven days.

  • If you forget one pill, take it as soon as you remember and continue as normal. Missing more than one may reduce its effectiveness, so follow the leaflet advice or speak to us.

  • Yes, many users find their periods become lighter, more regular and less painful after starting Microlite.

  • No, fertility usually returns quickly once you stop taking it. Most women can conceive soon after stopping the pill.

  • Some people may experience nausea, headaches or mood changes initially, but these often settle within a few months.

  • While it's safe for many, it might not be suitable if you smoke and are over 35, or have certain health conditions. Always consult us first.
