Eligibility criteria for free contraception:

Requirement 1.

You’re a person with a uterus.

Requirement 2.

You’re aged between 17 and 35.

Requirement 3.

You’re living in Rep. of Ireland.

Requirement 4.

You’ve a PPS number (PPSN).

  • Yasmin is primarily used as a contraceptive to prevent pregnancy. It’s also commonly prescribed to help manage acne, regulate periods and reduce symptoms of premenstrual tension.

  • Yasmin contains two hormones that prevent ovulation, thicken cervical mucus to block sperm and alter the womb lining, making it harder for a fertilised egg to implant.

  • When taken correctly—at the same time every day—Yasmin is over 99% effective in preventing pregnancy.

  • Yes, many people find that Yasmin helps improve acne by regulating hormone levels that contribute to breakouts.

  • Some users may notice slight changes in weight, but studies have shown no consistent pattern of weight gain directly linked to the pill.

  • If you miss one pill, take it as soon as you remember and carry on as normal. Missing more than one may reduce effectiveness, so check the patient leaflet or ask your pharmacist for guidance.

  • Possible side effects include nausea, breast tenderness, mood changes and headaches. These are usually mild and settle after a few weeks.

  • Yasmin is suitable for many people, but it may not be recommended if you have certain health conditions like high blood pressure, a history of blood clots or migraines with aura. Always consult us before starting.

  • There’s no medical need to take regular breaks unless advised by a doctor. Continuous use is considered safe for most people.

  • You can stop taking Yasmin at any time. Your natural cycle should return within a few weeks, although it may take a bit longer for some.
