Eligibility criteria for free contraception:

Requirement 1.

You’re a person with a uterus.

Requirement 2.

You’re aged between 17 and 35.

Requirement 3.

You’re living in Rep. of Ireland.

Requirement 4.

You’ve a PPS number (PPSN).

  • Yaz is a daily combined oral contraceptive pill that contains two hormones — drospirenone and ethinylestradiol. It works by stopping ovulation, thickening cervical mucus and altering the uterine lining to prevent pregnancy.

  • When taken correctly at the same time each day, Yaz is over 99% effective in preventing pregnancy. Missing pills or taking them inconsistently can reduce its effectiveness.

  • Yes, Yaz is often prescribed to help with mild to moderate acne and premenstrual symptoms such as mood changes, irritability and bloating.

  • Many users notice lighter, shorter and more regular periods while taking Yaz. It may also reduce period pain and related discomfort.

  • If you miss one active pill, take it as soon as you remember and then continue your pack as normal. For two or more missed pills, refer to the patient leaflet or speak with us, as backup contraception may be needed.

  • Like all medications, Yaz may cause side effects. Common ones include nausea, breast tenderness and changes in mood. More serious risks, such as blood clots, are rare but possible. Speak to us about your individual risk factors.

  • Yaz is not suitable for everyone. People who smoke and are over 35, or those with a history of blood clots, stroke or certain health conditions, should avoid it. We can help determine if it’s the right option for you.
